Heelr Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 June 2026
Heelr respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the
Heelr iOS app, including the journal, recovery and mobility tracking features, and the gait scan.
Heelr is designed for general consumers who want to log, track, and review their dog’s daily activity,
recovery, and movement over time.
Heelr is operated by [Legal entity name] ([ABN]). We handle personal information in accordance with the
Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Although Heelr is about
your dog, the videos you record and the details tied to your account can identify you, so we treat them as your
personal information.
Information We Collect
Heelr is built to collect only what is needed to provide its features. Because Heelr is a journal, some of the
information you enter is saved so that it is available to you across sessions.
Dog Profiles and Journal Content
- Information you choose to enter about your dog, such as name, breed, age, weight, and notes.
- Journal entries you create, including text notes, dates, photos, and videos.
- This content is saved so you can view your history, track progress, and review past entries.
Camera and Video (Gait Scans)
- The app allows you to record video using your device camera, or select an existing video, to perform a gait scan and analyse how your dog moves.
- To generate your results, your gait scan video is [processed on your device and/or securely transmitted to our processing providers], solely to produce your movement analysis.
- By default, your gait scan videos and their results are saved to your Heelr library so you can replay scans and compare movement over time. This is for your own use. You can delete a scan or its video at any time from within the app.
- Separately, we only use your gait scan videos to improve Heelr’s accuracy across different dogs if you choose to turn this on. This is optional and off by default — see “Improving Heelr” below.
Photos
- Photos you capture or select are added to the relevant journal entry or dog profile and saved as part of your content.
- You can delete photos at any time from within the app.
Health and Mobility Data
- Heelr stores the recovery, mobility, and gait information you log or that the app generates, such as gait scores, mobility trends, and recovery milestones.
- This relates to your dog and is used to provide tracking, history, and analysis features within the app.
Location Information
- If you use activity or walk-tracking features, the app may request access to your device location to record distance or routes at the time you use the feature.
- Location is used to provide that feature and is associated with the relevant journal entry only if you choose to save it.
- We do not collect location in the background or use it for advertising. Where a video file contains embedded location metadata, we [remove it on upload / retain it only as part of the entry you save] — confirm which applies to your build.
Account and Identifiers
- The app may create an identifier to support core functionality such as saving your content, syncing across your devices, managing entitlements, and associating your data with your session.
- If account sign-in is offered, we collect the information needed to create and secure your account.
- Under Australian privacy law, identifiers like these can be personal information, so we handle them accordingly and do not use them to track you across other apps or websites.
Usage and Diagnostics Data
- The app may collect usage events, such as feature interactions, to support app functionality and basic analytics.
- The app may collect crash reports and performance diagnostics through Apple’s built-in tools.
- We do not use this information to build an advertising profile of you or to track you across other apps or websites.
Information We Do Not Collect
Heelr does not collect:
- Advertising identifiers for ad targeting
- Contacts from your device
- Data for tracking you across other apps or websites
How We Use Information
Information handled by the app is used only to:
- Provide core features such as journaling, recovery and mobility tracking, and gait scans
- Generate your gait and movement analysis and let you track changes over time
- Save, sync, and back up your content so it is available to you
- Display and manage subscription access
- Improve app stability and performance
- Understand general feature usage
- If you opt in, improve the accuracy of Heelr’s gait analysis across different dogs (see “Improving Heelr”)
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or any third parties, and we do not share your information with advertisers. We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, or tracking across apps or websites.
Improving Heelr (Optional)
Heelr’s gait analysis becomes more accurate the more movement it can learn from across different breeds,
ages, sizes, and recovery stages. We only use your gait scan videos for this if you choose to turn it on.
- This is controlled by the setting “Share my videos to improve Heelr”, which is off by default. You can find and change it in Settings at any time.
- If you turn it on, we may keep your gait scan videos and results for this purpose, and re-analyse them later to check that improvements to our analysis are working and to compare results across dogs.
- We use them solely to improve Heelr. We never sell them, use them for advertising, or use them to identify you.
- You can withdraw at any time by switching the setting off or by deleting your shared videos. When you do, we remove your videos from our improvement and validation datasets within [removal period].
- We retain videos used for this purpose for up to [improvement-corpus retention period], after which they are deleted or de-identified. We do not keep them indefinitely.
Heelr works fully without turning this on — declining does not limit any feature.
Data Storage, Sync, and Retention
- Your journal content, dog profiles, photos, videos, and gait scan results are retained so that the features work and your history is available to you, until you delete them.
- Where sync or backup is enabled, your content may be stored on our service providers’ infrastructure to make it available across your devices.
- You can delete individual entries, photos, videos, or scans at any time from within the app.
- Location data is used at the time of the request and retained only if you save it to an entry.
- Videos used to improve Heelr (where you have opted in) are retained as described in “Improving Heelr” above.
- Usage and diagnostic data may be retained in aggregated or de-identified form to support app operation and improvements.
- If you delete your account (where accounts are offered), your associated content is deleted within [account retention period], subject to any limited retention required for legal or operational reasons.
Overseas Disclosure
Some of the service providers we rely on are located outside Australia, in [list countries, e.g. the United
States]. Where we disclose your personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to
ensure they handle it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, including through contractual
protections.
AI and Automated Analysis
- Gait scans and certain insights may be generated using automated analysis and/or third-party AI providers, specifically [name the provider(s), e.g. the analysis service you use].
- Where processing occurs off-device, only the content needed to generate your results (such as your gait scan video or movement data) is transmitted, and solely to produce those results.
- Before your personal data is sent to a third-party AI service, we ask for your permission. These providers are required to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes, advertising, or cross-app tracking.
Third-Party Services
Heelr uses the following third-party services solely to operate the app:
Apple Services
- StoreKit for In-App Purchases and subscriptions. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store payment details.
- Apple’s crash and performance diagnostics tools.
Cloud Storage and Processing
- We use [cloud storage / processing provider], located in [country], to store your content (where sync or backup is enabled) and to generate gait scan results.
- These providers handle data only to operate the app and do not use it for advertising.
No third-party services are used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
We Do Not Sell Your Information
Heelr does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to advertisers or any other third parties. We do not
share your information with advertisers, and we do not allow third parties to use your information for their own
advertising. The only parties that handle your data are the service providers described above, and they do so solely
to operate Heelr’s features on our behalf.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including
[encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and limited internal access]. No system is perfectly secure,
so we encourage you to use a strong password and keep your device secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to
result in serious harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
(OAIC) as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

You can:
